MEET JUDGE MATT WALKER

Judge Walker continues to apply this principle while presiding over the Veteran’s Treatment Court, where he leverages his knowledge and experience to assist non-violent offenders who are military veterans and suffer from substance use and mental illness. A graduate of the University of South Dakota with a Bachelor of Science in English and Computer Science, Judge Walker went on to earn his Juris Doctorate at the University of South Dakota's Knudson School of Law.
Judge Matt Walker has deep roots in Las Vegas, having spent every summer in
the valley since elementary school. He attended the Knudson School of Law in South Dakota, graduating in 2007.

Shortly after, he made Las Vegas his permanent home, where he has built his career. With both of his parents having been career-long public servants, Judge Walker developed a profound respect for the responsibilities of serving the public. He began his own career serving the citizens of Las Vegas when he joined the
Las Vegas City Attorney’s Office in 2008 as a criminal prosecutor.

Judge Walker believes that justice is not a destination, but a constant, demanding process that requires addressing not just the symptoms of crime, but its root causes. For 16 years, he was at the heart of that process, prosecuting thousands
of cases, conducting countless trials and earning a reputation for unwavering integrity, eventually rising to the position of Senior Deputy City Attorney.
This philosophy further drove him to create the groundbreaking Psychiatric Stabilization and Treatment program, which addresses the large volume of incarcerated defendants who are experiencing mental health crises which so often fuels the cycle of crime. The program connects these defendants to treatment and provides court oversight to ensure that they break that cycle.

Since 2016, the program has helped over 500 individuals rediscover their lives, reconnect with their friends and families, and return to being productive members of society.

of crime in addition to holding wrongdoers accountable. That's why he created the Psychiatric Stabilization and Treatment program, to address the large volume of incarcerated defendants who are experiencing mental health crisis. The program ensures that the defendants return to the court system for oversight and, since its inception, the program has helped more than 500 individuals.
